Q: Can I get permission to use a photo I saw in Counselor or on CounselorMagazine.com? 
A: Copyrights to photographs on CounselorMagazine.com or published in Counselor magazine are owned either by the photographer (or photographer’s estate), a photo agency or news service and are intended for viewing only. Because Counselor does not own the copyright to any of the photographs, we cannot grant you permission to use them—even for personal use. You must obtain permission and purchase the rights to use the photo from the copyright owner.  

Q: How do I report a factual error in one of Counselor’s issues? 
A: Please email factual errors to our editorial staff to determine whether a correction needs to be published.

Q: Where can I find a list of all CounselorMagazine.com sections? 
A: You can browse all CounselorMagazine.com sections by using the main navigation tabs at the top of each page. While only paid subscribers to the online access, digital or print editions have access to all content online, our guests and registered users also have access to a number of informative columns.

Q: How can I get back to the CounselorMagazine.com homepage after viewing a story?

Q: How often is Counselor published? 
A: Counselor, The Magazine for Addiction Professionals is published bi-monthly. A one-year subscription consists of 6 consecutive issues.

  Q: What is included in my subscription purchase? 
A: By purchasing the online access, print or digital editions you have unlimited access to the content on CounselorMagazine.com.

Q: How is content of CounselorMagazine.com different from the print or digital editions? 
A: Our online content is updated more frequently with news briefs and postings from our bloggers and includes more than what is published in the print and digital editions. 

Q: I am a print magazine subscriber. Can I get the digital issues as part of my subscription? 
A: The Zinio digital subscription is separate from a print subscription. If your preference is for the digital version, contact us to cancel your print subscription and switch to digital. We’ll pro-rate the credit amount due for any un-served print issues in your subscription term and apply it to the cost of your digital subscription.

Q: How do I renew or cancel my magazine subscription, change my address, report damaged or missing issues, or make other changes to my Counselor magazine account? 
A:  It depends upon your subscription type:

        Online Access Subscriptions:     if you have no print or digital subscription and enjoy Counselor exclusively online, simply sign in at www.counselormagazine.com and maintain your account information from your MyAccount link.

        Print Subscriptions:     if you are a print subscriber, please choose one of the following options:

Zinio Digital Account and Subscription Questions  

Q: What is Zinio?  
A:  More than a mobile reading application, Zinio has spent the last decade creating the digital editions of the magazines you love, delivering the exact same material you get in print‚ plus exclusive features like video, audio and live links, on your iPad, desktop and laptop.   

Q: What are the most basic things I need to know to get started with Zinio? 
A: If you have not created a Zinio account yet, please go to Zinio.com and click “create an account” to try it out. Zinio gives you two great ways to view your magazines on a computer: online using a web browser or offline using the Zinio Reader software. It’s your choice as to which version of the Reader you use. We encourage you to use either or both, depending on how you like to read.

Once you subscribe, you will receive an email notification as soon as a new issue becomes available. It will direct you to the My Library section on the Zinio website where you can view the Counselor digital editionor trigger it to download for offline viewing. If you have the Offline Reader installed and don’t do anything, your magazine will download automatically at some point in the course of the day. By default, the Offline Reader periodically checks to see if there is anything new to download and automatically downloads it for you if there is!

Q: How can I view my magazines on an iPhone or iTouch? 
The Zinio iPhone app (also compatible with iPhone Touch) is now available as a free download from the Apple iTunes U.S. store. Availability in other countries will be coming soon. The app allows you to download Zinio publications directly to your iPhone when connected to a Wi-Fi network (required).  

  Q: I am not receiving a new password or the one I have received is not working.
A: If you are not receiving an email from Zinio in your inbox, please make sure to check your junkmail or spam folder. If you still cannot locate the password reset email there, please call Zinio at 888.946.4666 for prompt assistance, M-F, 7am-6pm Pacific.

If you have received a password reset email but it is not being accepted, please make sure that if you are copying and pasting the password you are not highlighting an extra space after the password. Pasting the password with the extra space will add an extra character when trying to change your password. If you are manually typing the password, please note that the password is case-sensitive, which means that you will need to type upper and lower-case letters, as necessary. 

Q: Why did I miss an issue? 
A: If you miss an issue, please contact Zinio Customer Support at [email protected] or 888-946-4666. Let them know which issue you missed so they can look into the reason why and help you make sure that it doesn’t happen again. 

Q: Why am I receiving this magazine? I never ordered it. 
A: If you received an email about the digital version of Counselor but never ordered it, you are receiving a complimentary copy as part of a special promotion by the publisher or because you’ve opted in for promotional offers from a service such as Vista Print. This magazine is free for you to enjoy! Just follow the instructions in the email to get started. If you are not interested and would like to cancel, please click here with your request: [email protected]. Please make sure you email us from the address you want unsubscribed or note that address in your email.

If you are receiving the digital version of a magazine that you thought you purchased recently in print format, you may have accidentily purchased the digital version. If you think that may be the case or are unsure, simply contact us and we’ll help get information about your subscription. 

Q: How can I download a magazine again? A: To re-download your magazine, go to Zino.com and do the following: 

  1. Click on “My Library” in the upper right corner (you may be asked to sign in). 
  2. On the My Library page, scroll down to the very bottom. Just above the footer you’ll see “Using legacy zinio reader 3? turn on zr3 features: Click Here”. Click on that link. 
  3. Click the “Edit” button at the top of the page. You’ll see buttons appear beneath each magazine cover. To add a magazine to your download queue, simply click “flag item for download”. [Tip: use the list view to quickly add multiple items to your download queue. To add all items in the list, check the box in the upper left corner of the list, then click on the “flag item for download” button at the bottom of the list.] 
  4. Launch the Zinio Reader 3 and Press “M” to check for New Publications (PC) or click the down arrow in the Zinio toolbar at the top (Mac). Zinio Delivery Manager will open and download your publication. 

Q: What is automatical renewal? 
A: You no longer have to miss issues of Counselor because you forgot to renew in time! Zinio’s automatic renewal option puts you in control of your subscription by allowing you to receive convenient, uninterrupted delivery of your magazine without having to worry about renewing. The choice is yours: when purchasing a subscription, you can choose to automatically renew or to let your subscription expire at the end of the term unless you take action to renew. Choose the option that works best for you. The great advantage of automatic renewal is that you will never miss an issue and are backed by Zinio’s 100% satisfaction guarantee (you can cancel your subscription at any time and receive a full and hassle-free refund for any undelivered issues).

With automatic renewal, you will be notified and billed automatically at the end of your subscription’s term at the market rate for your subscription. The renewal will be billed to the card originally used to make the purchase. If that card has expired or the account has closed, you will receive a renewal notification by email that will give you an opportunity to update your billing information. If you change your mind and decide not to automatically renew Counselor, simply contact customer support with your request. Similarly, you can contact customer support if you would like to turn automatic renewal ON for a subscription.  

Q: I have more than one Zinio account and cannot download my magazine. 
A: If you have more than one Zinio account, we can merge them into one account. Please let us know what email addresses your accounts are registered to and which email address you prefer as you master Zinio login. Once merged, you will be able to view all your magazines. Please send your request to [email protected].

Q: How can I view my magazine in a web browser? How can I view it offline? 
A: Once you’ve created a Zinio account, you’ll be able to access Counselor Magazine in two ways: with the online (web browser) version of the Zinio Reader, or with the downloadable software version of the Zinio Reader.

  1. To view your issue online through a web browser, simply login at www.zinio.com and click on My Library in the blue Welcome box in the upper right area of the homepage. Then, click on the cover of the magazine you want to read and it will open in a new browser window.
  2. To download the free Zinio Reader to read your issue offline, please click on the following link and run the program: http://www.zinio.com/getreader. Please use the same email and password you used to create your Zinio account.

Once installed, your magazines will download to your computer. After the initial download, you will be able to read them even if you are not connected to the internet.

Q: Is the Zinio Reader comptible with Linux or my mobile device (iPad, iPhone, Android, Kindle Fire, Touchpad, etc.)? 
A: Zinio’s reader apps are not compatible with Linux. The various platforms where you can enjoy Zinio magazines are as follows. 

  • The online (web browser) version of the Zinio Reader is compatible on systems with Adobe Flash 9 or higher installed. 
  • The offline version of the Reader, which you can use whether or not you’re connected to the internet, is currently compatible with Windows (7/Vista/XP), and Mac OS (10.6 or higher except for Power PC models). You can download the free software by clicking here.
  • Zinio Reader Applications are available for iPad by clicking here.  (Counselor will be available on iPhone, iPod Touch soon.)
  • Zinio Reader for Android 2.2, 2.3, 3.0 and above is available at this time as a downloadable app from the Market by clicking here
  • Zinio App for Kindle Fire is available by clicking here.
  • The Zinio App for HP’s Touchpad can be found by searching “Zinio” in the HP App Catalog. 

The Zinio Reader is not currently compatible with Windows Mobile, Blackberry (or other PDA’s) or reading devices such as the Sony Reader, Nooks or Kindle(original) – although Zinio is working now to expand the capabilities of the Zinio Reader to include more mobile devices. Note: an app for the Blackberry Playbook is in development and will be available sometime in 2012. 

Q: How can I change the location where my magazines are stored? 
A: The publication files are located in the My Zinio Library on the C: drive. This folder is located in the My Documents folder and has a shortcut on the desktop.The publication files are downloaded to the following location: C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Zinio Library. Depending on what you want, there are two things you can do to move these files:

  1. Move individual publications after they’ve been downloaded: It is easy to move publication files to a different location on your computer, or to a storage device. The publication files are located in a folder on your C: drive called My Zinio Library, which should have a shortcut on your desktop. Simply open that folder, and copy the files as you would any other files you wish to move or save to disk, or
  2. Change the location of your My Zinio Library where Zinio downloads your publications. To move the My Zinio Library, you first need to edit your “registry” so that the Zinio Deliver Manager knows where to find the folder.

a. Click Start –> Run and type “regedit”.
b. Your registry will open. On the left, click on: HKEY_CURRENT_USER –> Software –> Zinio –> Reader –> Preferences
c. On the right, locate the file called MyMagsDir.
d. Right click on MyMagsDir and choose “Modify.”
e. Change the value data to the path where you want your My Zinio Library folder.
f. Close the registry and restart your computer.

You can now move the My Zinio Library folder to this location, and any future publications will download to the folder in its new location.

Q: Can I have the Zinio Reader installed on more than one computer? 
A: Yes. It is no problem to have Counselor on more than one computer. First, install the Zinio Reader on both computers. Note: when you go to the zinio.com website to install, make sure you log in to the website using the same account (same username and password) from both machines. Once installed, your magazine subscription will be automatically delivered to one computer, and you will need to manually download it on the second computer (which is easy to do). Which computer gets the magazine automatically? The computer that is turned on and happens to response to the zinio.com server first after the magazine becomes available will get it automatically. (Remember that the Zinio Delivery Manager will automatically retrieve the issue only if you leave the auto-delivery option turned on.) For the second computer, to get the issue manually, go to http://www.zinio.com/gncmylibrary and choose the option to download the magazine again.

Q: Is there an expiration or limit to how many times I can view my publications?
A: No. There is no expiration and no limit to how many times you can view your magazines!

Q: Can the magazine be downloaded as a PDF file? 
A: No. Your digital edition of Counselor can be saved to your computer and viewed using the offline reader. It is saved in Zinio (.zno) format, which is optimized to give you a rich magazine reading experience using the Zinio Reader.

Q: How can I switch my print subscription over to Zinio? 
A: The Zinio digital subscription is separate from a print subscription. If your preference is for the digital version, contact us to cancel your print subscription and switch to digital,. We’ll pro-rate the credit amount due for any un-served print issues in your subscription term and apply it to the cost of your digital subscription.

Technical Questions

Q: Why does CounselorMagazine.com not look right on my computer? 
A: If you having difficulty viewing CounselorMagazine.com in your web browser, here’s what we suggest:

  1. Make sure your browser is up-to-date by downloading the latest version from Microsoft (Windows), Mozilla(Firefox), or Mac (Safari).
  2. We also suggest you download the latest version of the AdobeFlash plug in.
  3. Clear your cache (found in your “history” or “preferences” section on most browsers). You may be viewing an area of the site that has since been updated, but your browser is rendering an older version.

Q: Why can’t I read all the articles and columns on CounselorMagazine.com ?  
A: Only paid subscribers to our online access, print or digital editions have complete access to all online content at CounselorMagazine.com. If you are not a paid subscriber, then we invite you to review our subscription options.

Q: Who do I contact if I my technical problems are not resolved? 
A: If you are having technical issues with your Zinio digital issue or library, please contact Zinio Support. If you are having technical issues with CounselorMagazine.com, please email us specifying what type of computer and browser you are using and what you are attempting to do when you encounter difficulty.
