“The sun shines not on us but in us.” – John Muir
There is sunshine in this world. There is humor and grace and beauty. There is good and friendship and love. And it’s all here for me. Today I will align myself with what is best and most nourishing about life. Everywhere there is evidence of an alive and magnificent universe if I open my eyes to see it and my heart to feel it. Sometimes it takes sickness to see wellness. Sometimes it takes pain to deepen my understanding of all that is good. I can see beauty in the world that is already surrounding me. I am part of that beauty and that beauty is part of me. I can let it into my pores and make it mine if I chose to, or I can reject it, see it as belonging to others, not me. Recovery has taught me to appreciate life, the world, the day, this hour. It has taught me to take responsibility for my own experience, if I don’t like something, I can turn it around in my mind to see it in its most spiritual light, I can shift my mood, my awareness—and that will make the same life feel different.
I choose to see the glass as half full.
